Japanese Soul Food
Omusubi is Japanese comfort food made form steamed rice formed into triangular shapes and usually wrapped with Nori ( seaweed ).
Traditionally, an Omusubi is filled with pickled plum, salted salmon, Katsuobushi (bonito flake) or any other salty or sour ingredient as a natural preservative.
Formed into a compact form, these little rice balls make rice portable and easy to eat with hands. You can enjoy Omusubi for a quick snack or as school / work lunch or picnic food !
There are several different stories about the origin of Omusubi and one of them says it is related to the three Gods of Japanese religion who created the world ( in Japanese mythology ). Dedication of mountains lead people to shape chunk of rice to triangle form like a mountain to receive the power from Gods.
